ABOUT THE RTSS-NOP

Joint Taiwan-Russia School-Seminar on Nonlinear Optics and Photonics will be organized for the third time. The previous two joint Russia-Taiwan symposia “Nonlinear Optics and Photonics” were organized under the NSC-RFBR program in the beginning by the International Laser Center of MSU in Moscow, Russia in 2008 then by Institute of Photonics Technologies, National Tsinghua University, in Hsinchu, Taiwan in 2011. These symposia were a success and provided a basis for further interaction and research co-operation of two complementary scientific communities in Taiwan and Russia. As a result of face-to-face interaction and fruitful discussions several research groups from Taiwan and Russia began scientific collaboration in fields of experimental and theoretical modern non-linear optics and photonics.

This school-seminar will be focused on the latest achievements in modern nonlinear and quantum optics, novel trends in photonics, biophotonics, propagation and interaction of high-power femtosecond laser pulses, spectroscopy, technology and application of new non-linear materials. The recent development of new technologies for fabrication of materials with micro- and nano-structured optical properties has stimulated new areas of non-linear laser optics. The papers are devoted to new concepts and applications of these materials in novel photonic devices, frequency converters, oscillators, communication systems and life sciences.

The main part of the School-Seminar talks concerns the problem of generation and detection of THz waves by means of nonlinear optical processes. THz range attracts a lot of attention; spectroscopy and imaging in this range are perspective techniques in various fields of physics, chemistry, biology and medicine. The new results show that THz waves can be obtained by optical rectification of femtosecond laser radiation and their spectral brightness can be measured using quantum-optical approach. An important session of the meeting is focused on biophotonics. There will be discussed femtosecond CARS microspectroscopy of biological tissues and 3D imaging of the brain, as well as influence of carbon nanoparticles on blood microcirculation in vitro and in vivo. Extensive discussion at the School-Seminar should have problems of nonlinear optical effects in plasmonic nanostructures, semiconductor and atomic microstructures with polaritons for quantum information purposes, the characteristics of self-action of extremely short pulses and femtosecond laser pulse filamentation.

About thirty original papers will be orally presented. They are grouped in six sections: THz photonics, Biophotonics, Spectroscopy of Single Atoms and Nanophotonics, Ultrafast Nonlinear Optics, Nonlinear Quantum Optics and Advanced Photonic Technologies, Nonlinear Optics and New Materials. Therefore the action is arranged in three days. Two more day are scheduled for laboratory and facility visits.

Thus, we especially encourage young scientists - students, PhD students, PostDocs from both our countries to participate at School-Seminar to learn more about fundamental problems of modern nonlinear optics and photonics, laser physics, spectroscopy and biophotonics, and relevant advanced technologies.
